DeWalt has rebranded its existing 20V FlexVolt Advantage DCS573 and Power Detect DCS574 7-1/4″ circular saws as the “New” 20V XR DCS590. So, if you have either of those saws, you already have the new DCS590.

DeWalt claims that running the DCS573 FLEXVOLT Advantage saw with a 6Ah FLEXVOLT 60V battery provides up to 77% more power than using a 5Ah 20V MAX* battery. My hands-on testing and usage confirm this claim.

However, I found that the 20 FlexVolt Advantage is slower than the 20V DCS565 6.5″ circular saw on a 5amp 20V battery and only just as fast as the 6.5″ on a 6 Ah FlexVolt battery.

Additionally, the 60V FlexVolt DCS578 runs faster on a 6Ah FlexVolt battery than the 20V MAX DCS573/DCS574/DCS590.

We know from our non-scientific-method tests that a 9Ah 60V battery is faster than a 6Ah 60V battery. And we know 5Ah PowerStacks, 8Ah PowerPacks, and 9Ah FlexVolt batteries deliver comparable performance.

Based on this data, we can deduce that the 60V DCS578 (DeWalt’s second-gen FlexVolt) runs faster on a 9Ah FlexVolt battery than the DCS590 (rebranded DCS573/DCS574) does with a 5Ah PowerStack or an 8Ah PowerPack.
