Milwaukee M12 Copper Cutter Review

We tested the Milwaukee M12 Cordless Copper Tubing Cutter, model 2741 on a couple of bathroom remodels and found it a great tool for anyone working with a lot of copper pipe. Let’s take a look.

Specs

The Milwuakee M12 Copper Cutter auto adjusts to cut Type K, L and M copper pipe from 3/8” to 1” (OD from ½” to 1-1/8”). So it will not cut the smaller AC line seen below with its 3/8″ outside dimension.

And while the UK version of this tool cuts 1/2″ EMT the US version (below) will just spin around the pipe forever and not cut through.

Compared to DeWalt

Just real quick let’s compare the M12’s (3/8″ to 1″) auto adjust cutter to DeWalt’s (1/2″ to 1″) Copper Cutter Attachment, which requires you to carry 3 cutting wheels: 1/2″ 3/4″ and 1″. And the 1″ wheel doesn’t even come with the attachment. The M12 is also MUCH quieter and smaller. All that said, the DeWalt is faster.

More Specs

Okay, so the Milwuakee M12 Copper Pipe Cutter model 2741-20 (20 for bare tool) has a light, view window, fuel gauge, is water resistant, and cuts installed pipe to within 1-1/2″ of the wall. Pretty sweet!

Bottom Line

This is a great tool. It’s fun to use and there isn’t anything else like it on the market. I’d give it five stars but have to hold one back because it doesn’t cut EMT like the UK version, called the Raptor. What’s up with that?

Anyway, to see this tool in action check out this video: See ya!
